Post subject:  Just an observation

Folks -

There have been discussions here on RyPN in the past about folks who use a "nom de plume" rather than their actual name when involved in discussions. Myself, I don't care one way or the other. And I don't want to start up that discussion again (enough has already been said about it). Now, saying all that, there is a gentleman who posts here on occasion that uses a steam locomotive whistle as his "board name". And recently there was a new posting with a question about that type whistle. When I first saw the subject, I thought that the question was about that gentleman. Of course, when I read the thread, I quickly realized the posters actual intention was in fact the whistle. But this got me to thinking. These "nom de plumes" might actually lead to some funny or perhaps, embarrassing, or other, situations. Don't know if that particular idea was ever brought up in the forementioned discussions. Anyway, this is just an observation. And I hope the gentleman who uses that "whistle board name" realizes that I am not singling him out. I'd like to think he is a friend of mine.

There is someone on here with a screen name that is the same as the nickname of a rather notorious long-time "fan" from the Mid-Atlantic region known to many here, including many well-known people in the tourist railroading/preservation business. Our friend with the same ID was informed as to this coincidence, after I mused as to whether or not they could be one and the same, it was determined they couldn't be, because our friend clearly was far more lucid and literate.
