Long time reader, first time poster here, although some of you might recognize my screenname from rr.net.

I thought I would try this here to see if any one knows the story of a long stored and seemingly very old boxcar in Whitehouse Station NJ?

It's just west of the NJTransit station in Whitehouse, (former CNJ) at the end of High Street. I believe its a brick or stone retailer of some sort, and it looks like the car was placed on a siding sometime in the early 60s and never left, from what I can make out on Historicaerials.com.

I've seen it from passing by on an NJTransit train, and it looks like it has had some repairs/modifications over the years, and looks to be wooden. Its been a few months since I was up there to see it, but from what I could see, it has a handbrake wheel near the roof on the east end of the car.

Does anyone here know the history of the car, and is it a gem "hidden in plain sight" kind of thing, or is it just an old boxcar parked on a disconnected siding?

At the end of High Street, just west of the west end of the NJ Transit Whitehouse Station parking lot. There is a long building with a white roof, with a smaller building with a brownish roof next to it, and some automobiles parked on the South side. (im looking at Google Maps through Google.com).

On the northwest corner of that building with the white roof, there is a smaller rectangle with a brownish/black roof. That is the box car.

This is one of those cases where Bing Bird's Eye View works wonders.

There is a CNJ Active Equipment List on the internet put out by North East Rails. The boxcar in Whitehouse, New Jersy is listed with the notation that it is "near mint". How accurate that list is, I can't say. Also, there is no CNJ car number mentioned so hard to determine if it is actually a Central Railroad of New Jersey car. Perhaps the car is lettered as CNJ. A photo would confirm this.
