The TRI-STATE RAILWAY HISTORICAL SOCIETY, INC.
Presents

Ed Fielding

At the

Bickford Theater

Morris Museum, 6 Normandy Heights Road, Morristown, NJ 07960

Thursday, October 25, 2012, 7:00 PM

The Thursday, October 25th, meeting of the Tri-State Railway Historical Society will feature a special presentation by long-time historian and Blue Ridge Chapter (VA) - National Railway Historical Society member Ed Fielding about the Virginia Blue Ridge Railway (VBR). This 15-mile, central-Virginia short line railroad may seem like an unusual topic for New Jersey railfans and historians, but in reality in the 1950's and early-1960's the VBR was home to a pair of now-famous New Jersey steam locomotives and three Lackawanna Railroad diesel locomotives. The steam locomotives were Morris County Central No. 4039 (ex-VBR #5) and No. 385 (ex-VBR #6), both of which are now owned by the Whippany Railway Museum. No. 4039 is currently being restored to full operation by the Museum.

A Virginia native complete with a local accent, Ed will present a slide show about the VBR and its operations through its 1985 abandonment using photos and slides compiled from the collections of the Blue Ridge Chapter NRHS in Lynchburg and from members Charles Long, Dr. Skip Hansbury, the late Richard Meyers and from Ed's own collection.

The program was inspired by an ongoing research project by Whippany Railway Museum president Steve Hepler which is currently displayed at the WRyM website: http://www.whippanyrailwaymuseum.net/in ... ge-railway

The meeting begins at 7:15 p.m. and we'll get to the show as soon as possible. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. Admission is free and all are welcome. Light refreshments will be available. Watch for updates on our website http://www.tristaterail.org or on our Tri-State Chapter NRHS facebook page.

Having seen Mr. Fielding's presentation at the annual Lynchburg, VA Raildays event I would highly recommend taking the time to go and see it if you have the chance. His depth of knowledge on the subject and first hand experience with the VBR operations make for an unforgettable experience. I just hope someday Ed puts this all into book form.
