An observer on Trainorders.com spotted a maroon PCC streetcar on a low-bed trailer westbound on I-44 west of St. Louis, MO this afternoon (Wednesday, Oct. 17). Apparently he checked the Market St. Ry. website and didn't find any cars meeting that description likely to be headed to San Francisco for "F" line service. The nearest possibility might be SF Muni 1009, which has been painted in a "tribute livery" honoring the Dallas PCC fleet. This car is red, but under some lighting conditions might look closer to maroon. Other possible destinations might be Dallas (McKinney Ave. Transit) or Tucson (new streetcar operation.) Anyone have an identification for the mystery trolley? |

It could be for SF Muni. I've heard that one is coming west really soon after being rebuilt by Brookville Engineering. We at WRM are waiting for its arrival in San Francisco since we have a couple of streetcar trucks (from Portland Traction 4001) to send back east on that Silk Road truck's back-haul. Thanks for the heads-up. |

I wish it was heading our way, would love to have that thing... However, I'd believe that is the Muni Dallas Livery car(Based on my little knowledge and speculation). I remember watching a recent brookville video and seeing that car coming along rather quickly so it wouldn't surprise me. Cant wait to see that thing in Muni service though! |

The car is Muni 1009, due in SF Monday. |

Here's a "before" photo from about two years ago, showing 1009 at the Muni Metro East facility off the "T" line.

Restored Muni 1009 arrived at the Metro East yard yesterday. I received a photo of it, but it was not in a format I could post easily. I am in awe of the Brookville workers who took something that looked like a "zombie streetcar" and brought it back to better-than-new. This leaves only Muni 1011, the Market Street Ry. tribute car to be finished and sent home. |

Bob - I just received some photos of 1009. You're right, it's a fantastic restoration.

Thanks for the "before" and "after" photos. From utter ruin to a thing of beauty. Anyone care to estimate the percentage of "historic fabric" that's in the car now? |

They will never have the resources (money and volunteers) to renovate any/most them. They should give it to you guys for $1. Out of sight and sitting in the Maine forests they have no educational value. You could put one to good use. |

'44, while I am certain there are many within the group, including myself, here in Dallas that would love to do so, we ourselves unfortunately face funding and manpower issues with our current "stock" of cars, not to mention the issue of space. Make no mistake though, once running we would definitely put them to good use! However, as far as original Dallas PCC cars are concerned, we do already own one (located currently one of IRM's storage yards), and it hopefully wont be to far off until she comes homes. |

Fantastic job. It reminds me of the old streetcar restoration reply in response to the oft asked question: How much of the car is original? "Well, we jacked-up the trolley base and replaced everything below it. Other than that, it's original." |
