Post subject:  ALCo RS-2 Cab

Hello all, i am looking for photographs of the ALCo RS-2 cab interior, specifically as many views as possibly because i am looking for reference photos for a 3D model.

Also, does anyone know which horn was used on the ALCO RS series? many thanks.

Which horn depends on which railroad. If you can give us a specific locomotive model and line I might be able to help. I would guess that at one point in time or the other, an Alco RS series locomotive has worn essentially every model of horn produced in the last 60 plus years.

Seconded wholeheartedly. However, if you're going for "as built" condition, you're restricted to something available between 1946 and 1950. The stereotype, for good reason, would be the Westinghouse E-2 single-note honker--the same one you hear running over Wile E. Coyote in Road Runner cartoons.

...and those ever present Leslie A-200s. Not sure how much overlap there would be, but 1950 is not too early for the Nathan/Airchime M-3, N-3, H-5 and M-5 models. Leslie also cataloged some "exotic" multi note horns as well -- E2-B3, etc. IIRC. However, I'd say ADM is correct in that most would have been delivered with single note honkers.

I took a few shots of PSRM's "ATSF 2098" cab last weekend. It will probably take a few days for me to get around to posting them. Doing a lot of Thanksgiving stuff . Based on the photo on our web site, it had a single note horn. This was originally Nevada Northern #103.

Here's some RS2 cab shots. Unfortunately, the cab is locked, so I had to take the photos thru the windows. Everyone is really busy getting set up for our North Pole trains, and didn't have time to dig up the key to the cab. It has been about 15 years since this engine has been run. If you want more, let me know. I should be able to access the cab after the first of the year.
