At Mid-Continent Railway Museum we are in the midst of rebuilding the tender trucks for the Western Coal & Coke No.1, a Montreal product built in 1913. This tender has Canadian arch bar trucks under it that are close to, but definately NOT, AAR 40 tonners. We tried all of the usual rubber 5X9 dust protectors and none that we have will fit. They are all too wide for the journal boxes. We will make some wooden dust covers, but would prefer to have the more effective rubber ones. Does anyone know of a source for replacement dust covers for Canadian 40 ton arch bar trucks? |

The No. 1 is not currently a funded project. The object of the current work is to get the No.1 out of the engine house so we have room for other, active projects. The tender truck was about 75% complete when the flood hit in 2008. We are finishing up that project. We will then be working to collect and reassemble as much of the locomotive's running gear as possible to get it back on its wheels and out of the engine house where it has resided for too long. There is little in the way of funds available, so we are trying to do the maximum with the minimum expenditure. Next item will be completion of the front truck. No current plans for the boiler. |
