Those of you who have actually met Kelly Anderson or myself know that both of us enjoy a good laugh, we are both fun guys and if we can not have fun, why do it, right?

Kelly mentioned in his reply to another post that I was not as cool as he is and that I was simply hurting myself to try and be as cool as he is. So.....for the pure fun of it (and there is no other reason for this than simply having fun), I am interested in knowing who really is the "cooler" of the two of us.

Personally, I voted for Kelly as being "cooler" than I am. Have you ever seen the way Kelly does his hair? Really cool! Besides, if you vote for me, I promise to install Coke Machines in every hall way and I promise the products will be free. I will also promise lower taxes.....so voting for me would make you part of the "cool" club.

Now, if you vote and if you want to have fun, share with us why you voted the way that you did. Remember, this is just for fun because we can all stand a little humor in our lives from time to time. If this gets out of control, which it should not, we will ask that this discussion be locked.

So your vote for the coolest of the cool is........?

Without doubt, Chris DeWitt, Nevada State Railroad Museum... he built an art car for Burning Man based on a pump organ used to control said car...

If in doubt, look at the McKeen restoration... Jules Vern in real life... and he can discuss varieties of riveted seams with the best of us...

Sorry, but second place is Lynn Modenger...

Your Friendly Moderator... and therefor god of railroad preservation....

I am an American. If you promise me the moon and a coke machine in every hallway it is a done deal. You have my vote John. Sorry Kelly.

Cheers, John.

PS in Milw a few years ago they gave out cartons of cigarettes at election time to buy votes, but I don't smoke so no biggie for me. Coke machines with free product rules!

For some reason I cannot cast a vote. But I would vote for Bill Wall since he is handy with the Deal of the Day.

Not knowing anybody well enough, I can't vote either, but I will toss in as a contestant--my hat.

It's a classic felt fedora, which is surprisingly warm in the winter, surprisingly cool in summer (keeping the sun out of that hole I now have in my hair!), and surprisingly good at keeping the sun out of my eyes (man, is the world blindingly bright when I'm outside without it!) The only disadvantage is that brim acts like a wing when the wind is blowing, so I have to trim my head to keep the hat on.

What makes it cool is that the blooming thing is a chick magnet! I originally took to wearing it to keep the sun away, and decided I would look a little (very little) like Humphrey Bogart or somebody with it. Well, guess who was once the biggest d----d square in school who now has these young girls telling him he's cool, and saying they like the hat? Blast it all, where were those 18 and 20 year old girls 35 years ago when I was single?

I've told my wife about this, and she says she likes the hat, too. I also said maybe I ought to trade her in for a younger model, and she could find some millionaire to marry. She says no way, and further, says the only chick I'd get would be some yellow fuzz-ball that says "cheep, cheep" all the time; after a while, I'd be like I am now, stuck with an old hen. She did say that fuzz ball would be a good fit, though, since she says I'm always "cheap, cheap!"

If I were considering who is “cool”, Mr. DeWitt would be right up there. He is the only person I know to get a fellow employee (same State agency) to use foul language to describe something that happened in a staff meeting and laugh about the meeting while I realize the story teller is a Bishop in the Mormon Church!

Some of the coolest people I can think of include Alex Eason, who in spite of a steel plate in his head and suffering from blackouts as well as other health issues he came out and worked with the volunteers on SP 3420. He had fired and ran 3420 in the 1940s and 1950s when it was both a coal and oil burner.

There is the former SP official Jim Efaw. He was patient with everybody and became a legend with both the brotherhood and the officer ranks. Six years after he retired, The SP was installing a siding on the Golden State line between El Paso & Tucumcari. The crews nominated and management approved that it be named after him. It was a testament to what people thought of him. Unfortunately his wife died 3 years after he retired and he missed her terribly. He was very dedicated to his job and he told me once that he retired to kids that were grown and gone and a wife he barely knew

Then there was Charlie Williams, the old I.C.C. inspector who was still working for the FRA until 1985 when he retired. He taught a lot about the difference between a boiler in compliance with the code and a boiler being safe.

This is just an example of the people who I have had the privilege of learning something from. There reputations are based upon other’s thoughts and not there own. They knew their strengths and weaknesses and did not overstep their level of competency. I realize I miss each one of them but I also realize I was fortunate to meet any of them.

Webster's Definition: Cool

a : marked by steady dispassionate calmness and self-control <a cool and calculating administrator.
b : lacking ardor or friendliness

Hum........

Can we submit a "write in" candidate?

OK.....the truth is, I would put Caffeine Free products in the machines and most of the product titles would include the words Root Beer in them. There, I just saved face at Church tomorrow....thanks for catching me on that one!

Utah Josh, as you know, I have looked at that boiler a number of times. If you vote for me, I will indeed provide you a discount on that new boiler! See how many more votes from your group you can get me. Kelly is winning right now and it is hurting.....I need help!

This has been really funny to watch!

Cheers,

JohnE.

In my book, calling oneself "cool" automatically disqualifies said individual from consideration. Jes' sayin'.

Both these guys have cool going for them....but if DeWitt was on the list......I'd have to go that way with my vote, Dennis not withstanding. Harold Borovec, also what with the red polka dot cap.
