A group in California wants to acquire a passenger car now at Woody Creek, CO. See the link below. Anyone have photos of it? What else is left in the Aspen area? Ralph Barger's book on the UP business cars says that the one-time ANOAKIA was sold 3/71 to a Mr. Alfred of Wichita Falls, Texas, and it was used as a cottage in Woody Creek, Colorado. The car was a four-poster built by ACF for Bureau of Mines in 1917 and rebuilt by Hotchkiss Blue Co for Anita M. Baldwin in 1919. E. J. "Lucky" Baldwin (1828-1909) was a late 19th century "capitalist" and land developer. The name ANOAKIA was also the name of the estate of one of the Baldwin daughters that was located in Arcaida. This later became the site of a grils school and then just this last year torn down for a subdivision. A number of the preservationists in Arcadia were upset about this happening and also concerned about the many California Live Oak trees on the property. The name seems to be derived from the Rancho Santa Anita and Oak.
