There's a neat iphone map glitch. Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of map atlases, track charts, and photos, but this is really useful for those of us who weren't around 30 - 40 years ago. when you look at the map in standard form, it shows a lot of railroads that have been gone for a real long time. For instance, the B&O Parkersburg Sub is shown almost in its entirety. To flip back and forth between standard and satellite is neat. Sometimes if you look close enough, you see whistle posts, old bridges, deactivated signals, etc. along the right of way. Some of that stuff, if you are a museum, might be worth looking into for preservation. A neat tool to use for preservation efforts.

One other note: in standard map form, pick a city or town, start zooming in until the lines that represent rail lines appear, then you see what I'm talking about as a lot more railroads are present than there are today.

I'm not sure it's a glitch so much as it is part of the software. I've had a GPS in my car since I was 16 (I'm 21 now), and it's always shown the abandoned Wilkes-Barre and Eastern line, which I live by, and which has been gone since the 30s.

Thanks. I love stuff like that. You never know what you'll find. There's also a site with historic topo maps and aerial photography that's pretty interesting.

My car GPS shows the old Belvidere Delaware Railroad line all the way from Trenton to at least Lambertville - and I can look over across the canal (near the road) and see the roadbed, now a trail, for a large portion of the way up Route 29 in New Jersey. One day I'll take the time to explore and do a little photography.

You'll have somewhat a different experience on the new iOS 6, if you have installed that. It switches from Google to Apple maps.

No idea how they do that. The museum had nothing to do with it, the whole town is like that.

The Ip6 OS map change has SEVERE problems with locating businesses accurately. That's why Apple has had to publicly apologize for it.

It's a worldwide phenomenon, not just here. Even dangerous; made CNN on locating the visitor center for a park in an inacessible road and it got people stranded that had to be rescued.

Locally, it shows two three-star restaurants across the street where I live. There's a nursing home there, some rental properties, and a garbage dumpster on the exact spot that is pinned. Innacurate doesn't even begin...

The three star restaurants it references in my neighborhood are 150 miles away. I've had a great deal of fun showing my neighbors that their dumpster is rated three-star.
