Google Street View is taken with a tricycle. It looks like we are going to get Google Rail View. Wouldn't that be neat for a Ry Museum/Tourist Ry Website? Anybody have an in at Google?

I saw this photo had the same thought. I'm sure one day Google will have done all of the tourist railroads.

Along those same lines I think that probably 90% of the tourist railroads and museums are not using the full potential of the web. My roller derby team has Facebook, Twitter, a blog, online calendar, online ticket sales, sponsorship information packet in pdf, and a youtube channel. This organization is only a year old.

Maybe it won't work out. But maybe seeing if it does will be the best adventure ever.

I'm told Google also used compact cars.

They use cars, trikes, snowmobiles and something they call a "trolley", but in the British sense of the word, like the small beverage cart on airplanes, not flanged wheels and trolley pole.

Huh? Do it yourself. Now. Grab any camera which attaches GPS notation - like a smart phone. Go take pictures of your line.
Post them on Panoramio. Wait 3 weeks. DONE. The photos pop into Google Earth.

That has already been largely done, for instance, on the Bluebird (Waterville-Grand Rapids OH) on Google Earth.

Feel free to use a panoramic camera if that's what floats your boat. If you do, people will be able to "enter" the photos just like in Street View, though I'm not sure all the features would work. I've seen cities in Southeast Asia where it's clear that SOMEBODY drove all over town taking panoramics every 100 feet, with the net effect not far from Google Street View.

Here's the roundhouse at Greenfield Village.
