John Gould, a frequent visitor to http://www.steamlocomotive.into provided us with information concerning Ferrocarril del Sur 2-8-2 No. 81 in Golfito, Costa Rica. We hadn't previously known about this locomotive and were happy to add it to our database. More information at:

Doug -

Great news. This, and the recent "discovery" by Mr. Gould of a slightly newer sister Mike (#84), are a very nice pre-Christmas present!

Maybe it won't work out. But maybe seeing if it does will be the best adventure ever.

Take a look at the first photo in this link. Is old NO. 56 in Chicago & Northwestern Livery? Sure looks like it!

Well, C&NW *inspired* it would seem..
but not "C&NW Livery"! ;)
those are two very different things..

The word in the middle of the logo is "Northern"..
and some googling shows its lettered for the "Costa Rica Northern" railroad.
but yes, it seems pretty clear the logo on the side of the cab
was inspired by the C&NW logo..
