We had a good year in Cheyenne split between four projects, the donating and moving of the remains of 'Geneva' car 56 to the Como roundhouse, http://car57.zenfolio.com/p123520640 the moving and rebuilding of the fantastic most famous HOn3 narrow gauge model railroad layout the Union Central and Northern to the attic in the Cheyenne Depot Museum http://car57.zenfolio.com/p540335402 The lifting and moving of 1913 CA Caboose 2516 to Car 57's old home base for restoration, http://car57.zenfolio.com/p940861892 the dismantling and salvage of UP caboose 2455 http://car57.zenfolio.com/p940861892 Continued restoration of Car 57 and its move back to the home base with the caboose ! It was great saturday working on two projects with no driving required in between ! http://car57.zenfolio.com/p331500692 Attached is a latest shot of the caboose with its lovely windows going back in, these are all restored/rebuilt not new or replacements. If you look in the background Car 57 can be seen. Not a bad year for a one man band Mike Pannell

Fitted two more Cupola windows this afternoon and did some investigating into how the side windows slid, appears that a long gone wooden/or metal track was bolted on below the windows. The West door is almost ready to be re-fitted this was just a poor kicked in frame but has come up really well. Mike Pannell

Couple of pictures of the door and its hardware, it awaits the fitting of the drop light window and door handles. The wood in the bottom half is recovered and trimmed from the rotten boards on the Cupola between the side windows....i hate throwing anything away ! Mike Pannell

Looks great, and I agree that you should always reuse what you can of the historic material. Taylor |

2012 was a great year in your efforts for the conservation, preservation, interpretation and restoration of these artifacts or old junk car bodies as well as the layout. May 2013 be just as progressive. Never say never... Thanks Michael. A railroad is nothing but wood, iron and stone without the people. |

Did some more work today as its spring like here, and started to tackle the rotten wood below the cupola side windows, this will be cut out and a new piece inserted to replace it. Then the new centre section from 1909 CA 2455 and the side windows can go back in, the guide rails for the windows are being made by Wasatch RR contractors, great having a fabulous crew and shop like that in town. The door continues to make great progress and is almost ready to fit, in view of the time these abused doors take i will fit a replacement door from 2455 on the other end to speed things up. This looks likes like a very similar UP caboose (link below). It has some small wind screens sticking out from the cupola. I wonder how common those were on UP cabooses? http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... 43&nseq=16 |
