One of the interesting takeaways I got from the historic homes article was the idea of an iPhone app that lets the visitor tailor his or her tour experience to their own interests, and especially the idea of viewing images of what they're looking at from different time periods, based on where they are standing. If you have access to such a collection of images, something like that should be fairly easy to build. Are there any railroad museums that are currently using such apps, or have them in the works?

I thought this was going to be a thread about UFO sitings on tourist railways.

I experimented with creating a QR code for an existing exhibit (if you want to know more" only to learn we need to have wifi available to our guests. Our IT person is a bit protective of the network so this has not happened. But the concept would work very well and I hope to do more with the idea someday soon.

And I thought it was about reports of sightings of U.F.O. sitings on tourist lines, that is, seeing strange and exciting airships being located on them.

In response to wesp there is also a way to link it to a web site rather than use wifi. We are working on using this as part of our exhibits as we go thru a major outdoor rework of our display area. Dont let your nerd spoil a good idea. These codes are easy to use and I am seeing them in all kinds of displays. People are geared to using their smartphone as an information device we need to get with the program and use it to our advantage. Its a great way to tell a story and deal with information.
