An interesting thread cropped up on Trainorders a few days ago about a one-year trade between the California State Railroad Museum and the UK's National Railway Museum that would send Virginia & Truckee #12 to England in exchange for a British 0-6-0. Anyone have insights that would raise this beyond the "rumor" level? Rob |

I did see that discussion on TO, but nowhere was there any mention regarding the motivation behind such a swap. It left me scratching my head. The V&T Locomotive involved would appear to be this one: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=346207&nseq=189 /Kevin |

I'm afraid the answer I was given actually lowers this to the "false rumor" level. This is what they said about it... "You shouldn't listen to rumors, [me]. That one sounds particularly ridiculous." So there you have it, it ain't gonna happen! |

So there you have it, it ain't gonna happen! WHO did you ask? The person at the ticket counter? One of the docents? Somebody who actually has the authority to know the answer? For that matter, the more they deny it, the more often it seems to be true, LOL! Although I have to admit that this one does seem rather unlikely to me as well. |

Unlikely, yes. But they've hosted a British steamer from the NRM before, for the 1991 Railfair. (I think it was Great Northern 1247: http://www.steamlocomotive.info/vlocomo ... splay=4558 ) Not impossible. |

In this field of interest (railroad preservation), I've come to the realization that the more a group denies a particular rumor, the greater chance said rumor has of being true. Also, if a group repeatedly refuses to comment on a rumor or story, the rumor, once again, has a very good chance of being true. |

In this case, the idea that the CSRM would consider taking one of its prized engines(the Genoa of all engines!) out to send it somewhere with no relevance to it whatsoever, in exchange for something that would be out of place... The CSRM wasn't interested in letting the miniature Sonoma go back to the ON&P, not even on loan! If they weren't willing to give that engine away, what would make someone think the museum would part with the Genoa? |
