Does anyone have a list of railroad equipment currently residing in scrapyards across the country? That might be helpful in determining what there is out there that can be saved,or that might provide valuable parts even if the equipment is beyond salvage. Just an idea..... kbcotton@flash.net |

There are some seminal sites dealing with "lost" locomotives and cars, etc. I don't think anybody has done a truly comprehensive job yet. James Hefner's CD is probably the most complete on steam locomotives. A more interesting challenge in my opinion is recognizing the surplus equipment in our collections that is gradually scrapping itself and coming up with the gonads to make the decision to find good homes for it before it is truly lost. More is likely to come available as marginal museums and tourist railroads dissolve due to the costs of new regulations and insurance premiums. Line up those donors now. Dave irondave@bellsouth.net |

Man, Where were you guys when I was living in SC? I blew it; all these great storehouses of rail preservation knowledge, and all within driving distance for this neophyte. I suppose you guys were discussing these things over some decent barbecue (fat chance here; this is Friday-night-fish-fry territory) or a moon-pie and an R/C.
