As I understand the news about the rebuilding of D&RGW 486, the only K-36 not operable or in the process of rebuilding is 483 which has sat unused in Chama for more than 20 years. Considering the great effort and expense to restore the others, why not the same for 483? Are the repairs just that much more expensive than the others?
|

#483 was the first engine to run on C&TS and unfortunatly now needs complete boiler replacement due to thin spots and bad water, not to mention the running gear. Maybe others can shed more light...
btflco@aol.com |

483's boiler os ok, but it needs new flue sheets, you'd might want to go to the "Friend Of the C&TRR'S website, and check out the narrow gauge discusion group, there was a thread about that engine awhile back, seems that the running gear has been canablized for the other engines over the last couple of years
jastacey@wt.net |
