The thread about the C&NW E8 mentions RI 630. What is the status of this engine? Any recent photos?

Thanks!

Whenever you want to know about surviving first generation diesels the best source I've found is the Diesel Shop, specifically:

http://www.thedieselshop.us/FirstGen.HTML

and if you follow the links you will find she's at the Midland Rwy Historical Society.

I Googled that and I could find nothing about her on their web site.

So I did some more searching and found this picture taken in Kansas City at Mid-America Car in May.

Mid-American Car, Inc.'s web site is here:

http://www.midamericacar.com/

So I conclude she and sister CRI&P E8 652 seen with her in the picture are being rebuilt to run again. Let's hope that's the correct conclusion.

I of course took the best picture of her nearing her end of service for the Rock Island.

As explicitly said in the C&NW E-unit thread:

Quote:
The group went through several more internal wars, then sold both RI E units to the group in Baldwin, KS. The units were then later resold and are now in the good hands of Dan Sabin and his Iowa Northern RR.

The transaction in question supposedly happened in mid-2008.

Ironically, as I type, the Facebook page for Iowa Northern's Hawkeye Express football excursions, using former Amtrak/Canadian Atlantic F40PH's and ex-C&NW bilevels, has 630 "likes": https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Hawk ... 6859452890
