We are now into the first "tourist" season since the 9/11 attack. Trying to get a rough idea as to how visitation is holding up as compared to similar periods through July 4th in the past. To make it as easy as possible, just use a letter:

A. for Up significantly

B. for Up slightly

C. for About the same

D. for Down slightly

E. for Down significantly

Without visitors, our other problems (restoration, insurance, membership participation, management, growth, etc.) become moot points. So....how about a "guesstimate" on how we are doing thus far?

Hey doc,

How did you guys make out on the olympics when cost of operation vs. passenger reciepts were compared? I heard that the NNRy made out pretty well as far as the use of 93 in Utah is concerned.

As I believe was pointed out by myself or by another involved individual in a earlier post, Heber Valley did just a little better than break even on the receipts/operation costs. The absolute real gain was in the publicity/coverage we received. We are still reaping the benefits as they carried over into the visit from Thomas and into this summer season. Just this evening, I was Conductor on the 'Sunset Special' Dinner Train and had a passenger ask if I was around when Al Roker was at the railroad. If I remember correctly, he was at the Soldier Hollow Venue and introduced the piece (filmed earlier by another reporter) that aired.

Well, beaking even is way better than losing money. And the publicity for smaller railroads that don't have the flashiness of the Cal. State RR Museum and the tourist attractions of GCRY is more than invaluable to say the least. Glad you guys at Heber were able to reap something good from the SLC Olympics.
