Neat videos

The crane at the Henry Ford was build for the Detroit Tunnel (to Windsor) ... not the Detroit Towing Company

There also are operational Cranes in Ely, Nevada and Prince George, BC --- though that one isn't allowed to lift anything.

We saw the crane operate at the Hesston Labor Day weekend steam show.

Is that Greenfield crane taking steam from the Mason bogie?

Yes. It doesn't have its own boiler. It was designed to run off of electricity, steam or air, but I heard that Conrail removed the electrical power equipment.

I love the videos, but one suggestion. Each time you start a new thread, it pushes other topics off of page one of the "active topics" list onto page two where many readers do not see them. It is just heart breaking to me to see a photo-filled post by Mike Pannell, chronicling his hard work, get bumped onto page two just 8 hours after he posts it, and then to see ZERO replies to his post because no one even noticed it. No wonder he is talking about giving up on this forum.

As a solution to burying good preservation topics, why not find a current preservation-related thread and post video links there? For example, the thread "Norfolk & Western Steam Crane 514908 (1910) Saved!" (link here) would have been been perfect for these steam crane videos. That would have served two purposes: (1) revive a recent, worthwhile preservation thread that some readers may have missed, and (2) not bury other worthwhile topics.

Not to single you out, because there are other offenders, and I am also guilty of starting threads that served no preservation purpose. And speaking of that I am going to put myself into the penalty box now and not post anything for a while.

Thanks for being understanding (and I will generally try to do what you suggest), but reposting to older threads does the same thing as it bumps an older post to the top of the list.

In the case of the steam crane videos, and even the Chinese steam in twilight clips, in the future if something is new I'll be placing it on the "Railfan" page (I'm not sure it was usable or up when I started this thread), but renewed posts on older threads will still do this. Oh, and while a bit of a nit-pick, could a link to the "Railfan" page be included in the link block that includes "Home/Flimsies/Articles/Briefs/" etc. be worked in when you have the time? As it stands now, you either have to to to "Railfan" either directly from sign-in or have to back out to sign-in.

I'll keep this bit of courtesy in mind. . .
