After being in the Thomaston Shop since early August 2012, RMNE rolled CNR coach 5114 outside for the first time on Sunday 3/3/13. The car was in the shop for metal body repairs and repainting (see the thread "Speed Painter").

Built 1929 by National Steel Car, Ltd., in service on CNR until 1991; last use was in Montreal commuter service as number 4990.

An appropriately snowy environment for a Canadian car, eh?

Looks kind of like a freshly-painted Rivarossi HO model here:

A lot of RMNE people put in many hours on this one, and they are all pleased with the result.

Of the CNR coach fleet at RMNE, eventually there will be three cars with open (high) clerestory ceilings and three with the modernized (low) ceilings. The modernized cars will carry this 1954 CNR paint scheme and the high ceiling cars will have the older CNR solid dark green exterior, no stripes or maple leaf heralds.

That sure looks great and I can not wait to see the all green car (my favorite CNR scheme) finished.

Lovely, lovely, lovely.

Now all we need is a 4-8-2 or 4-8-4 (6218 maybe?) to pull them. . .

Hey, can't a fellow get any sleep around here? I always have these dreams when you roll me out of bed. . .

Beautiful Howard! You all must be quite proud. An early Easter present. What a great addition to your train for the summer. That was a great color scheme.

Sandblasting starts tomorrow on the Southern Rwy Heavyweight I'm helping with down here. Outside. Sunny. 52F. No snow! Marty

Thanks for the compliments, gents.

With all the curves on our line, a 4-8-2 or 4-8-4 (even the smaller CNR versions) would be a bit much. But a nice Pacific or Ten-Wheeler or Mogul.... just right.

There might be a newly-painted all-green car by the end of the season; not sure yet. If there is, it will be shown here!

My favorite Canadian paint scheme, and the above kudos are more than justified! Thank you for restoring the historic car in the proper scheme, too! What a terrific testimony to RMNE and the rolling stock collection.
I love it!

Interior of 4990/5114 in summer 2011, after interior painting. I may have some more interior shots next week.

Glad to see you have the traditional walkover seating rather than partial transit style bench seating used in Montreal commuter service.

A CPR G5 would look perfect with six of those coaches.

All of the CNR coaches at RMNE had the longitudnal commuter seats removed and walkovers installed. This work was done in the mid-90s by the benefactor who donated the cars to us in 1997.

The cars have seating for 80 passengers, but we consider 70 to be the maximum reasonable capacity. A few more can be accomodated in sell-out situations.

Mixing CPR loco and CNR coaches ?? Gee, just like a Montreal-Quebec pool train!

Could go pure CN, too; what about that 4-6-0 on the NH&I? Would she like to come play with some roster mates?

Is CNR coach 4992 still being worked on? I enjoyed this report from last year about the EPDM roof being put on it:
