I'm trying to do an article for a a historical society on the 1111. I'm trying to figure out what railroads this locomotive ran on. According to several sources, she ran on 13 to 15 different railroads. A list of those railroads would be nice as I'm having trouble finding them. I know NYC, PRR, New Haven, C&O, NP are for sure. Also, if you have dates available of when it was there, that would be awesome. Thanks. Bret

If you can lay your hands on a copy of Railway Age for the period after Timken 1111 was built that would give you alot of information. There is a museum in Canton, OH (home of the Timken Co.) that has a live steam model of the Four Aces on display.
Add the Erie RR to you list.

Add DL&W to the list.
1111 tested on the Lackawanna in 1930, and the railroad went on to order nearly identical copies.

I have a copy of S Kip Farrington's book where he rode in cabs, I think that the author rode this engine on the Lehigh Valley from Coxton to Gracedale as well in December (I want to say 1938) but that could be wrong, given the other dates cited here.

The years this locomotive was in demonstrator service was 1930-1933. Northern Pacific bought and used it after that. Lehigh Valley is a possibility though since it toured in the Northeast.

Frey and Schrenk's Northern Pacific Supersteam Era has a copy of the Railway Age data.

Steve -

I see from the list that the "Four Aces" ran nearly 6,000 miles on the Erie. Would be nice to think that at least one of those round trips took her to Chicago, and thus through North Judson, Indiana where our museum is located. My guess though, is that these test miles were more likely on the Erie's eastern end. Any idea exactly where the 1111's mileage on the Erie actually occured?

Thanks for posting this info. Very interesting stuff.

One other question. Does anybody have a pic of the 52 supplier plaque on the tender? I see it in the photos but way too far away to see who the are.

The magazine Modeltec did a multi part article on the 1111. Many articles featured a 3/4" scale live steam model of it that remains one of the best live steamers ever built. I was lucky to know the builder. There were also several articles on the prototype.

I can look up the issues for you, if you want. You can prob get the back numbers from Railpub or the like.
