Again, I can't locate this magazine anywhere on the net - not available through libraries, I bought it on ebay. I would love to share this time piece here. I'm just a rookie train enthusiast but I can tell that this issue is extremely important, as it was referenced several times in "Steam to Diesel" by Albert J. Churella. It declares a new Baldwin policy just as Mr. Vauclain died.

This is an excellent photograph of Samuel Vauclain, date unknown.

"Prior to 1939 The Baldwin Locomotive Works had never made any very active effort to put itself in the position of a builder of competititve Diesel switching locomotives."

That is an enormous admission.

No need to look for government intervention during WW II to see a problem here with why Baldwin was behind the curve to survive the steam to diesel transition.

Here are copies of the pages that are referenced in "Steam to Diesel" by Albert Churella.

As you can see, there is no reference anywhere to Whitcomb on these pages.

I have yet to discover where the origin of the 92% stock ownership and eventual complete purchase and merge into a division that has been repeated all over the place came from.

I still have more to hunt down.

Excellent photographs and statistics of Baldwin 660 hp and 1,000 hp diesel locomotives.

Very nice. There's a free website called Scribd.com that will allow you to post digitized documents to share with others. They become available online for viewing all the time.

I didn't know that. Thank you very much. I wonder if forum members here have any preference about posting it all here or going to another website to find it?

Here are excellent photographs of the Baldwin De La Vergne diesel engines including the combustion chamber.

There is another page to this article but its interrupted by four pages of Baldwin adds. I'll scan them all in order.

Pretty interesting reading of how Baldwin designed their systems but made no mention of Westinghouse. There is an add in the back by Westinghouse that states Baldwin was using Westinghouse diesel-electric drives.
