How to tell if your country has a surplus of steam locomotives... You use TWO of them as decorations for your new roller coaster.

Yea, who knows, in another 20 years, the Chinese may be pulling their steamers out of such locations to restore them for excursion use... ;-)

My thoughts exactly, which is why I posted it here and why I feel it is preservation related.

Could a locomotive actually be saved by being parked at an amusement park for many years? Oh, I don't know... Maybe ask the ORHF crew and see what they say about finding old steam locos out back behind the roller coasters.

Hurts less than a torch. They're kept intact, and being in the public eye I'm sure they will not have a lot of rust of them anytime soon (which is much more than you ask at many "railroad museums"). I see this as nothing but a positive!

I haven't visited the site, so I don't know for certain.

However, I can say, based on other photos and videos as well as this one that they have no track to operate on. They're "plinthed" at the station of the roller coaster, used in the same manner as the Harry Potter train at Universal's Wizarding World, part of the theming and decor. The entire amusement park is brand new as of 2012, and the plinth area was built new along with the rest of the park.

Being unable to move, there is no logical reason for them to be under steam. The smoke in the photo appears to be acting in the way you'd expect theatrical smoke to act.

Based on the above, I will say it's highly unlikely they're under steam, and the smoke is simply special effects.

Appears to be, yes.

Well, being in an amusement park so far has preserved famous St. John Plantation "Albert", from H. Reid's book Extra South at Cedar Point. Sadly no longer operable (nor probably restorable to operating without replacing most of the original fabric of it), but at least kept painted along the Frontier Trail.

Shown here at least 20 years ago (if someone knows what year truck is in the background we could narrow it down some), in operating days, with the mahogany cab put on it by Arthur LaSalle for Cherokee Wonderland. That cab rotted out and has since been replaced for display. The tender had been removed so the flues could be "poked".

Based on their numbers, Steam Locomotive 0069 ought to be a class SY, 3366 ought to be a class JF6.
The SY class was mechanically based on the class JF6 (except with Boxpok drivers).
Duncan Cotterill's list of Chinese steam locomotives does not list an operating location for either.

Decorations? Judging by the stack steam, one of them is powering the coaster.
The other one is probably under maintenance.
