Here is a link to a photo essay I just did about the Milwaukee Road in Minnehaha Park, Minneapolis, as it is today:

It contains several pictures of the fabled Princess Depot. I once volunteered here as a station agent, and man oh man do I intend to do so again!

On a more sober note, I wish a railfan rich as F. Nelson Blount would buy the line from Minnehaha Park to 46th Street, fix it up, and offer something like "caboose hops" up and down the line from Minnehaha Park to the Short Line bridge and back again on select days of the summer. I'm sure the Minnesota Commerical would be agreeable to such ops since they only serve the Southeast Minneapolis elevators on weekdays IIRC. Yes, I know there would be insurance and all that red tape to deal with, but just imagine: heavy rail trains back at Minnehaha Park! They have been there before, including the good ol' American Freedom Train, so why not an SW-type switcher and a couple crummies? The line would only need to be brought back up to 10 MPH standards for such ops too given how small and light switchers and hacks are.

Tony -

Nice photos of the still existing trackage and the "Princess" depot. I understand why you want train operation again, but why not try to start small; motor car and a passenger carrying trailer? If you have enough patronage with that, you might have a good basis for a future caboose train. Anyway, good luck in your endeavors.

Love that idea, Les. The Silver Lake RR team in New Hampshire built quite a cool attraction with motorcars.

A motor car and trailer would be a good idea too. Also, I am surprised track speeder owners have not been allowed to run them on the bit of track in the park itself.
