Ed,

Nice photos. What kind of passenger car is that behind her?

Also, anyone else think the footboards on front look a little high off of the rail?

Great looking locomotive!

What is the interior configuration of that car like? The middle windows being set higher I find intriguing. I see the end windows are too but figured that is a bathroom.

According to regs, the pilot clearance above rail is 3-6". It looks like they need to adjust them.

Can't wait to see what these guys eventually end up doing with this locomotive, no doubt it will be as imaginative as the efforts that brought it to life.

Me too. I do wish, however, that people who start threads about this engine would use its proper reporting mark, CNJ 113. I see JCL and wonder what RyPN has got to do with the Journal of Chinese Linguistics.

Actually I'm hoping it'll do a stint as the "Wharton and Northern" 113.

This car was used by Perry Shoemaker when he was President of the CNJ.The story goes that he didn't like the idea of people looking in as he was eating in the dining room (and whom he was eating with) thus the windows to prevent that. Lackawanna business car 99 had similar windows and was Perry's car on the DL&W.

Pretty sure everyone else here saw it as Jersey Central Lines.

Actually, I think the window configuration predates Mr. Shoemaker's ascension to railroad executive. It seems to have been a feature of early steel and late wood PVs of the early 20th century. The dining room would be further forward of the car. The high windows are approximately where one or two of the bedrooms would be, or where the main restroom is, likely equipped with a very small bath tub. The high windows at the front of the car are likely where the kitchen and porter's compartment is located.

Dean Levin (who often posts here) owns a PV, the San Marino, which was originally built for Henry Huntington, and later was a SP business car.

*Of course, there is an exception for everything. Anyone have a diagram of the car's configuration, or the similar DL&W car? Do the high windows exist on both sides?
