I can't tell you how proud I am to have been a part of the CRHS after this event.

First, I want to give a HUGE shout out to Jim Stanton, the man who made it all happen. Jim was THE driving force behind the museum, from conceptualization through ensuring the press was there Saturday, Jim MADE IT HAPPEN.

If you ever meet Jim, buy him a beer.

Second, this is the culmination of decades of dreaming on the part of the society. We've been wanting a "home" since it was founded, but homes are expensive. While a converted auto parts boxcar isn't quite the "repurposed rolling mill full of second generation diesels" we were initially thinking of, it is, in some ways, far better.

The real genius to the whole thing is the fact that it's built on partnerships. A partnership with CSX in donating the car. A partnership with the locality for having the land donated AND the support of having it be PART of the community. The museum is located on one of those hated "Rails to Trails" trails. But this means that the museum itself gets to be part of the story: it helps tell the story of why that trail is there and at the same time, provides a great place for people to get out of the sun for a few minutes, soak up some AC, and learn about the most important railroad story of the latter half of the 20th century.

On top of that, it's a great space for housing our archives and providing access to them.

Kudos to Jim for his incredible work and congratulations to all of my fellow CRHS members for being part of something truly awesome.

Shipping container homes have become something of a rage in recent years. This facility could be referred to as a "container mansion". Is it split into two floors? If not, it could be, at least partially.

We thought about doing a loft thing but ended up just going with taller shelves for the archives.
