I don't know if this qualifies as preservation, but since it includes an old subway car maybe it does. For those of you that saw "Person of Interest" on CBS last night you saw the good guys getting a new headquarters that was a long abandoned 1920s IRT subway tunnel. It looked very real but was actually a set built on a sound stage. The producers went to California and purchased an old subway car to use as part of the set. Entertainment Weekly Magazine got a behind the scenes tour of the set complete with photos and the story of its conception and construction. Looks like it is going to be a great season!

A bit sad that they'd spend all that money to get a period feel, then spoil it with a grossly anachronistic car, with completely incredible signage.

Admittedly the 'nearest' thing to the look they seem to want would be a Brightliner, which is technically too late for their abandoned era and too wide for IRT service... but at least it's a recognizable NYC car! Meanwhile, what became of that subway car over on Staten Island that was last I heard sitting in the parking lot...

I'm curious as to where they found a NYC subway car in California??? And I agree, it doesn't make sense that a modern car would be in a subway station abandoned in the 1920's. If they couldn't find an appropriate car of the period, you'd think they'd have the ability to build one. Especially considering all the detail work they did on the station such as the lighting fixtures.
