Post subject:  More Streetcar Preservation --- Scranton 505
This coming Wednesday, May 1, 1:00 PM the Electric City Trolley Station and Museum will have a public reception to announce the kickoff to raising funds for car 505. It was built by Osgood Bradley, and ran on the streets of Scranton PA until service ended in 1957(?) Not too sure of the date.

A much more public fund-raising event will take place the following Friday. Here is the text from the flyer.
¡FIESTA FOR 505!
Join us from 530-730pm on Friday, May 3rd for a Cinco de Mayo themed event at the Electric City Trolley Museum! Enjoy Coronas, margaritas, and a selection of tasty hors d'oeuvres while you listen to the festive beat of a live mariachi band. Tickets are only $25 at the door and all proceeds will benefit the restoration of Scranton Transit trolley car #505!
The file below has the same information I just posted, along with a photo of this car when she was in service.

I sponsored my seat in December. ECTMA has done wonders over the years & deserves support. While I enjoy riding the Red Arrow cars I rode in regular service during my high school days, having a Scranton car in service is very important. Wish one of the Laurel Line cars could have been saved, Couldn't help there- I was only 4 when they were scrapped.

Here's hoping that they are able to finish it. Since the odds of seeing a real DL&W engine running up there are slim to none, a Scranton Transit trolley would be a worthy second option. Best of luck to all involved.

I was at a banquet on Thursday when that article came out, and a friend of mine could not understand what all the talk about 505 was, when clearly the car says 506. I'm sure that got a lot of people confused. The 506 is actually a Reading (PA) streetcar. Scranton's 505 needs more work than that, and with luck, only $350,000. Already some big contributions have come in. This is only scratching the surface, though.

A fundraising donation box and exhibit was debuted after the press conference and speeches. The donations will be accepted in this fare box from one of the trolleys.

The other side of the exhibit shows the type of seat the cars of the era used. The 505s seats will have to be reproduced since they were damaged by a flood. The horse hair stuffing then rotted out and they were not usable.

Above the seats is this painting which hung at Sheeley's Drug store in downtown Scranton for 50 years or so. It is the type of car that 505 was and will be again.
