Hello all, Volunteers at the Museum of Transportation in St. Louis are restoring St. Louis Public Service 1743, a PCC car. After service in St. Louis, the car went to SF Muni, where at some point, the rear aluminum framed windows were replaced with "grommetized" rear windows. We'd like to have a new sash made. One potential workaround is evidenced in this photograph of the rear window of a former Shaker Heights PCC at IRM. While the original STLCC windows were curved at the top, to match the contours of the window opening, many operators replaced them with rectangular sashes. This is similar to what we'd like to replicate. We have exhausted all local sources and cannot find a local company to make something like this. Do you know of any company that can make a rear window unit like this one? If so, please let me know.

Can you supply a drawing with measurements? If so, I will take it to a fabricator here and see what he can do. Harry Nicholls h_k_nicholls@peoplepc.com |

WRM had the same problem on SFMUNI 1016. They made new sash in the museum's shop. Aluminum bar stock, an end mill and some time on the Bridgeport. Drill, countersink and tap a few holes. |
