It is not just locomotives or tours that are keeping the staff at Steamtown busy. Over the past few months, a new exhibit on advertising and the railroads is coming into fruition in the History Museum. ![]() All different eras up to the present are covered in this exhibit. ![]() Three dimensional artifacts, including this Phoebe Snow-style dress will draw interest into the topic. The dress is on loan from the Lackawanna Historical Society. Other items are from the Steamtown Archives. ![]() Railroad calendars and posters advertising events as well as travel to the events are key elements of the displays. ![]() All the work is being done in-house. I just happened to catch them in the act of assembling some of the artwork. The total project will be finished in June, but the public can see it now in its incomplete state. |

![]() Here are a few photos of the finished product, completed this week. ![]() While the eye is drawn to the Phoebe Snow dress, there are all types and trends of advertising used in the exhibit. The concept was developed by Park Ranger Kenny Ganz, who created what you see here with curator Sarah Smith. Some items were donated by the Lackawanna Historical Society, but many pieces are taken from the park archives or are photo scans of items in the archives. |
