Post subject:  New railroad museum opening!

My NRHS chapter, the Niagara Frontier Chapter, NRHS, will be opening our semi-restored public on a regular basis starting July 21. The ex-Erie RR freight station is located on 111 Oliver St. in North Tonawanda, near the now-CSX Niagara Branch. I helped-out on it during one of the 16 years of work done on it so (during the summer of 2000), and the primary reason we're opening it now while it still needs a bit of work is that CSX has filed to abandon the trackage linking our station to the Niagara Branch, which we used to get our two cabooses, one 25-ton Plymouth, and a boxcar donated by ConRail to the station. We also own a 50-ton centercab built in Montreal that was owned by the old Tonawanda Island RR. The 50-ton centercab is "serviceable" (was last in '97 or '97, but wasn't capped and did suffer some vandalism damage; while the 25-ton is only cosmetically restored (we do want to get it running I believe). Our ex-Erie caboose has been painted and detailed externally, but I do believe some interior work needs to be done. The other caboose, an ex-NYC, has only been sandblasted. We'll be open every Sunday starting July 21 through August I think from 1-4 pm.
