The Ffestiniog Railway has kicked into high gear with locomotive restoration; http://www.festrail.co.uk/content/publi ... gain.shtml Quote: The Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway has been given the go-ahead forWelsh Pony's restoration to traffic by the Company's Board and a comprehensive restoration management plan has been drawn up in conjunction with the FR Heritage Company. What I found even more impressive was this statement; Quote: "As a mature railway, our aspiration is that all our locos should eventually be returned to operating condition," adds Lewin. "We want to be in a position to be able to simply pull any one of them out of the shed and light it up. With the notable exception of Princess and Double Fairlie Livingston Thompson, which contain much original material and will be preserved as historic artefacts, the idea is that everything else should be restored to working order rather than being tucked in the back of a shed covered in dust." So... Restoration of the entire fleet, barring the two locomotives in original condition? The method of fundraising is going to be interesting to say the least... They openly admit that there isn't an exact funding plan as of yet, but could the Ffestiniog's fundraising plan (once formalized) be used for some of our museums? Regardless, this whole project is fascinating in the proposed scope and scale. But, back to Welsh Pony. The Ffestiniog has launched a website for the project. http://festrail.co.uk/welshpony/ |
