I was at the RR Museum of PA today and noticed a distinct lack of whistles from across the street.

I was pleasantly surprised to see #1 out pulling some coaches, which was a nice treat:

However, I heard that it died while on one of the runs.

I hope everything's ok! It's definitely a cool piece of equipment.

#1 was running with two cars for our Heritage Day commemoration. It was on the ½ hour train schedule while #475 did the honors on the hour train. With all old machinery, when the mood strikes, they will cause trouble. #1 felt it was a good time to have what we think are carburetor issues and we had to take her off the last scheduled trip. We will get her fixed and everyone will be happy again.

My girlfriend and I were on the first heritage run of the day yesterday and it brought up some questions for me. I never really thought of it before but what happened to Strasburg's motive power before 1959? Is #1 the only original Strasburg locomotive left? Are there any records of what the railroad used before 1? As many times as I've been to Strasburg in my lifetime I've never really looked into the history of the line other than that it was started in 1832 and was saved in 1959 by a group of 25 men, one being the president with 24 vice presidents with the rest being history.

In 1926, Strasburg bought the Plymouth brand new, which allowed them to retire their steam power. All of their steam power was hand-me-downs from the Pennsy, which I’m sure was in marvelous shape! From 1926 until we got #7312, the Plymouth was the road’s only motive power.
