Sorry, missed the anniversary by a few days. A photo was recently located on ebay (still on sale) showing #4501 crossing Tenbridge in Chattanooga enroute from K&T to TVRM. "And the rest is history..."

I've always found it ironic that the 4501 event was only eleven years after the official "last steam run" on the Southern...and on the same route, to boot. Too bad we don't have a shot of 6330 crossing Tenbridge on 6/17/53!

It is also a shame that 6330 did not survive! It would have been very unique to have the LAST steam locomotive to operate on the Southern Books. And it would be the only CNO&TP engine to survive and have the unique smoke duct!

Yes, if only. When Messrs. Merriman & Soule were poking around at Citico Yard (now DeButts...and Soule was working there) in the late 1950's prior to dreaming up TVRM, they remembered seeing a few SR locomotives in the roundhouse (small switchers mostly) amongst the straw storage. Alas, however, no 6330. But we can be eternally grateful for the dispensation of #4501 (and #630...which is only one character away from 6330?)

BTW: Did anyone see this from the other morning?

Thanks for the info Steve! Southern 6330 would have been at whatever facilities were located in Cincinnati. She was scrapped there in 1955.

And next year will be the 50th anniversary of 4501's journey from Stearns. Hmmm....

Next year sounds like it will be really fun! I sure hope that 4501 is in steam by next summer!
