Hmm, hard to pass up, but my organization already has a non-operting C&O 2-8-4. As far as numbers are concerned, there appears to be more of them preserved than anything else, and except for the one at the IRM, and occasionally ours (2716), I don't think any of them are under cover.

Then again, those Russuan diesels do look somewhat inviting........

C&O 2-8-4 #2727 at the Museum of Transportation in St. Louis is also covered, as seen at the link (scroll down about half way).

Interestingly, the engine was parked at the west end of town on June 8-9 when 6325 ran(last year it was not in sight of the depot).

I was shooting in the cab of 6325 on June 8th, and after guest engineer Gary Bensman got the train rolling I decided to try a shot out the left gangway to get a view down the boiler. To my surprise 2700 was in the viewfinder on the left. Glad I got that shot now, as it may not be there when we go back in October.

QUESTION: What's the difference between a rich railroad museum and a poor railroad museum?

ANSWER: A rich railroad museum has at least two steam engines disassembled on the property.

759 is safely tucked away at the "core complex" (roundhouse in scranton)and on a "wish" list.

David: C&O 2789 (the last Kanawha and the only one surviving with a welded boiler) has been under cover in the museums shop building for some time now where it is undergoing a slow cosmetic restoration.
