I am passing this information on to you from the Save America's Treasures Program and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The publication they mention is very well done. Larry Obermeyer Siouxland Historical Railroad Association Sioux City, Iowa Save America's Treasures would like to make you aware of the recent publication of Building on the Past, Traveling to the Future: A Preservationist's Guide to the Federal Transportation Enhancement Provision, published last year by the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Federal Highway Administration. The publication identifies resources available through Transportation Enhancement that help communities protect Main Street areas and heritage corridors. This second edition was updated to reflect the passage of the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21), which increased federal funding for enhancement activities by 40% and also affirmed the eligibility of preservation projects with functional, economic, visual, or other links to the transportation system. Profiling 27 projects in 19 states, this 80-page guide shows how the enhancement provisions have been tapped to support community and regional goals, from downtown revitalization to heritage area projects to rural landscape preservation.
