Does anyone have any information about Ralph Day of Biddeford ME, the last known owner of the Shay sn-918?

I recently came across an old posting mentioning he may have passed away and the Shay still sits at the driveway to the long gone Biddeford Station museum.

Ralph Day lived in Connecticut last time I saw him. He worked for UPS in management. His field was shipping of hazardous material. He was active at the Seashore Trolley Musuem and I think he was a director there at one time. Biddeford Station was designed to be the western terminus of the Seashore trolley line. Contact the people at Seashore and I am sure someone there can fill you in on Mr. Day.

Thank you, I have sent a message to Seashore Trolley Museum.

Does anyone know if Shay 918 in Biddeford ME is up for sale? The remaining 2ft equipment and rail on site is listed for sale on Sterling. Didn't see the Shay listed. Did any info on Ralph Day turn up?

To my knowledge, 918 has been sold to a new owner much closer to where it originally operated. It will probably be moved sometime next spring.

Do you know who purchased this Shay and exactly where it is/was headed?

Yes, I do know who purchased this Shay and where it is headed (it has not been moved yet). However, I am not willing to share this information without permission. The new owner is an officer and director of a major museum and also has a large personal collection of artifacts, including rail equipment. It will be at a good home.

Do we happen to have any photo's and which rail line the SHAY came from originally?

Rick's most excellent site has been updated to show that Will Harris is the new owner of SN 918. Should be a good home for the old girl.

It was still on Route 1 Biddeford on October 9th when I drove past it.

Either that site is a bit over-eager or she was moved in the last couple of weeks.

I drove by the Shay in Biddeford on Monday Oct. 20th and there was no sign of any activity.
There didn't appear to be any preparations for a move either.

Facebook, "The Steamtown Forum":

"Spotted in Scranton [Pa.] . . . on the side of the road on Montage mountain towards the end of Davis street"

No word yet on whether it's just passing through or staying for work. Supposedly headed to Goshen, Va.

I went by there Sunday, saw the engine in weeds and brush, then saw it on FB this AM, on a truck in Scranton. Somebody rigged and loaded it pretty quickly. Hope it gets a good home!
