Working on the slide collection of a deceased NRHS member, lots of NRHS convention photos, is there a list of NRHS conventions anywhere?

I can pull up one--the Md. Rail Heritage Library maintains a file on NRHS conventions, with ephemera (order forms, folders, tickets, etc.) from every last one held (I believe).

Got subject matters/locations? We have enough "walking encyclopedias" here that I'm wagering some of us would hear, say "6060" or "3985" and instantly be able to tell you the Convention year.

Pretty sure Charleston was, indeed, 1970. Jim Wrinn's "Steam's Camelot" (which has an almost-perfect list of every last SR/NS steam excursion) confirms it: Branchville/Charleston with 722, Charleston-Branchville with 722/630, and back to Charleston with 630 on Monday, Sept. 7, 1970.

No offense, but I have to chuckle when you mention 4501's appearance at a NRHS convention. You'll need much more information than that to pinpoint a date as the "Oh-One" has been part of numerous conventions. As a matter of fact, the operation of #4501 nearly single-handedly provided the catalyst for NRHS's enormous growth of membership in the 1970's. Many NRHS conventions were held in the south/east to allow Southern's Excursion Program (with 4501) to provide steam powered passenger trips for their participants. A better question might be "what other steam locomotives, if any, appeared with #4501"?

Roanoke hosted in 1977 with 610, 4501, FP7's, and again in 1987 with 611, 1218, FP7's, and "Best Friend of Charleston"

1984: Cincinnati, OH, NKP 765 (Life Begins at 40!), NW 611
1988: Tri-State '88 (How could we forget!), Northern NJ, NKP 765
1990: St. Louis, MO, Frisco 1522, NW 1218(?)
1991: Huntington, WV, NW 1218, NKP 765, PM 1225
1993: Chicago, IL, UP 3985, NKP 587 & 765 (NW 611 on inbound special to Ft. Wayne)
1997: Salt Lake City, UT, UP 844, UP E-Units (inbound Royal Gorge steam special from Denver)
2003: Baltimore, MD (put on by WDC Chapter), no mainline steam, Bennett Levin's PRR E-units
2006: New Philadelphia/Dennison, OH, OC 1293

Not sure of the year, but the Intermountain Chapter hosted a convention in either the late 70's or early '80's in Denver, CO. I'm sure some of the other long-time fans/NRHS members can fill-in other gaps back to the late 1950's, early '60's.

Rather than relay on guess work, have you thought about asking the NRHS office ?
