Haven't seen much of any discussion of motor cars (or speeders if you prefer) in this forum, but with the large number of railfans involved in this area of preservation it would be interesting to hear what some of them are doing. I've heard of old lines preserved just for motor car operations, but never any specifics on the groups involved. Anyone out there involved with any of these groups who'd like to share any info?
BTW, the link is to one web site I found about some operations of motor cars, but it doesn't have any info on the group(s) involved.

The Cotton Valley Rail Trail Club operates on the State-owned former Wolfeboro RR in New hampshire.
This group maintains the ROW as a trail for walkers/hikers, while using the rails for speeders.
Stone dust has been put between the rails to allow
the dual use.

You might want to check out NARCOA North American Rail Car Operators Association. Our museum is just getting involved with them - they (through the chapters) arrange runs on various rail lines with proper insurance, permissions, and safety measures.
It's kind of odd, but it seems like a lot of these folks really aren't interested in RR preservation in general, just the speeders.
While I love steam, the 20's era Fairmont gang car we run is also alot of fun, kind of like the Marx brothers on wheels. The hand-cranked single cylinder Fairmonts can be a pain to get running right, but IMHO, are much more interesting and fun than the multi cylinder cars, and when you get them right, are pretty reliable.
