Con-Cor thinks so, the train shows a remarkable similarity to the North Shore electroliner.

Not to sink Con-Cor's ship... But that's the New Haven's comet streamliner.

A 1930's streamliner with Bicentennial paint scheme and a modern Amtrak logo. Yup, they did their research.

I am waiting for this to appear on some wacko site as "news" of Amtrak's incompetence.

It's almost as if they made more then they could sell and elected a new marketing approach.

And Amtrak can be run with just about anything - for those seeking authenticity, lol.

Anyone remember those Great Northern GG1's from AHM?

That website seems to be trapped in a time warp of some sort, most of it is dated 2012.

As for it being the Comet, they're well aware of that. http://www.con-cor.com/HO-1941-New-Haven-Comet.html

Probably just trying to sell more of the production run as somebody else already suggested.

Well, maybe the should give it a try. The Talgo is old technology, and it's doing great in the Pacific Northwest!

That might not be a bad idea, a Class I heritage service. Imagine resources available to recreate a classic intercity train, an expansion of Iowa Pacific's Pullman Experience, complete with E-unit locomotives on a streamliner or even steam with green heavyweights. (Hey, dreaming is free!) My nominee--a heavyweight, steam Empire Builder second section in the peak summer months, with GN 4-8-2s and a 4-8-4 for power. . .

About the Talgos--the original trains were built under contract by ACF; check out this clip:

At least one of these original trainsets has been preserved in Spain.
