New to the Group

Hello fellow RPN subscribers, I am new to the group and just wanted to introduce myself. I have been working on a project for the past five years actively documenting the former Pennsylvania Railroad and its impact on the landscape, in particular between the East Coast (NYC, Philadelphia, DC) and Pittsburgh. My work is very much tied to a life long love of trains but also an interest in history and my obsession (for lack of better words) with photography. I am a working photographer with a focus on creative historic documentation, I teach photography at Drexel University and still use a 5x7 and 4x5 view camera. I look forward to sharing my work with you all and hope to have some good conversations soon. Now that I have said way to much about myself, here is a link to my work... Nice photos. You'll find a lot of working preservationists here. Many are opinionated and curmudgeonly in manner (myself included). Most here are intelligent, well informed, and of the ones I've met personally, good people and great companions, especially when sharing conversation and appropriate beverages. A lot of mutual support and information is shared here.

Gary, thanks for the message, I have yet to find a person in this hobby who isn't a
little curmudgeonly, in fact I'd question one if they weren't! I have had some great experiences with Railroaders and collectors and I'm confident I'll find that here. Looking forward to sharing soon!

Many thanks for that! Adams and Plowden are some of the most prolific photographers of American 20th Century masters to be even compared to them is quite flattering! Look forward to seeing more soon!

Very nice work with the photography, Plowden certainly comes to mind, but I always hate it when people make comparisons. Your work speaks for itself.
The historical backup you have only adds to it.

I'll second... or third? What are we up to? I'll echo the positive accolades on your portfolio.
Very impressive and all the more so that there's the focus on railroad and nostalgia (read: History)! It's not often that I see one's work and feel motivated to get off the highway I'm on to explore some photographic back roads. It's very easy to click "B&W" in Elements or Photoshop, but your portfolio shows where film reigns triumphant. That, and of course, your skills.

Enjoy your stay at RYPN. You'll find very knowledgeable folks here who are more then happy to answer questions and entertain your thoughts.

Jeff, I'd give my right arm (I'm left handed) to watch G's and E44's crossing that bridge at Whitford. Such an amazing location and that bridge just speaks volumes about how ambitious the PRR was in their engineering projects - Cassatt and Brown should be haunting all people that were involved in the decision to abandon the Low Grade, but given the circumstances it had to happen.
