Enjoyed your entry on Harris Tower from last year. What a neat portrait of the 93-year-old former operator, Mr. Rittler.

Thanks Flo, Don is such a wonderful guy, I had the chance to spend time with him at Harris after that when NS ran 765 through town, he was smiling ear to ear like a little boy! Such a great man and wealth of knowledge!

Very neat! You can still see the old R&C grade from PA 283 there as well as a stone culvert. The south end of the branch at Columbia is now owned by Saheed(sp?) Salvage and has been reactivated to store cars (visible from US 30). Thanks for posting.

I wanted to make a few photos from the old R&C grade but dumping a car on the side of 283 is a little hairy. I'll have to get out there at first light some time on a sunday, maybe a little easier.
I was down in Columbia and have a few images from that will probably post before the ned of the year. Currently accumulating information and visuals for Lancaster which will be a big post or two.

You can get all the photos you want from the Lancaster Junction Trail, the R&C right-of-way from 283 north to Lancaster Jct., about 2.5 miles. And heading south from the end of the Landisville Railroad toward Columbia, the ROW is still fairly intact and hosts a power line so it's easy to follow. If you go west on Marietta Pike from Silver Spring, if you know where to look, parts of the even earlier Marietta Branch are visible.

Thanks for the info G.W. I'll be heading out that way in a few weeks, I'll have to check these locations out.
