An architect friend has requested a listing of extant turntables and roundhouses in Canada. He's mum about the project he's working on, but I expect it's near his Western province home. Does anyone have such a list ?

So, sounds to me like someone who knows nothing about the subject they have been hired for and is being _paid_ to gather data and produce a report/study/plan/whatever wants _free_ help doing their job from someone who knows their subject but is too cheap to offer payment for said expertise. I have run across these sorts a number of times and they are always a waste of my time. The project almost never comes about or if it does is poorly executed with money going to consultants etc. and the end result lacking in authenticity or accuracy.

Last time I looked the turntable and round house were still in use at Cranbrook, BC. In 1999 the roundhouse was still in place at Jasper, but I think a friend said it may be gone?

Was recently in Dauphin, MB. Roundhouse (ex CN, probably ex CNor.) is used by local public works. It is sided with modern steel but internally is still very original. Turntable and pit are intact!
Prince Albert, SK roundhouse and turntable were still in use by short line rwy about 4-5 years back.

I came across this list of roundhouses and turntables around the world just by chance this evening. No U.S. though. MS Excel required...

I notice a couple of Toronto items missing off that list. A turntable at Mimico yard, and I believe there is one on display next to a big box hardware store, possibly a transfer table too (memory is foggy on that).

The one at Mimico is on the list Joe. It's the one listed for Etobicoke. And you are correct about the turntable on display at West Toronto.

The tender shop turntable in Stratford is long gone and so is the tender shop itself. It burned several years ago. The rest of the main shop still stands however...... for now.

And Stratford's turntable pit was filled in a few years ago as well (though you can still see the edge of the pit)
