Boiler looks new, can't speak for the running gear. Headlight is too big....... I didn't know they were still in operation. Best of luck to them. dave |

From Facebook comments subsequently posted: "No it was on display at Boothbay. Edaville bought it. Boothbay shops rebuilt it." "It's one of the saddle tanks that was on the avenue." I took the comment to mean the locomotive was previously on display at Boothbay, not Edaville. All we can say for sure is that it is a Porter chassis. Rob |

The locomotive in question is actually a kitbash of the two 30" gauge Porter saddle tanks. Edaville had Boothbay Scenic Railway Village build the engine. According to Facebook the 11 will double head on the Polar Express with 21 on Sunday |

Actually this locomotive WAS on display at Edaville, it is one of the International Smelting and Refining (Anaconda Copper) locomotives that originally came from the Raritan Copper Works at Perth Amboy, NJ. The folks at the Boothbay Railway Village rebuilt the locomotive.....and narrowed it from 30" gauge to 24" gauge. The display locomotives at Boothbay are Baldwins from the S.D. Warren Co. in Maine. So, if this new engine is a kitbash of the two porters that were on display, what happened to the bits and pieces of the other one? Did they get thrown out or kept as spares? |

Knowing one of the boiler guys at Boothbay, I can say with certainty, nothing gets thrown out. Anything that can eventually be cleaned and put back in service, will be. |

I dunno......while personally, I like the sound of deeper throated whistles, such as is on the 0-6-0, considering the new engine's small size, I don't think its whistle is too bad. |

folks, I have compiled an all time roster of the Edaville Railroad. Of course the amusement park of today will never have the character it did when the Maine Equipment was there. But is is still great to see some new steam on the property. Darn few amusement parks are running steam these days. Unless they are Disneyland they rarely have the money to keep a real steam locomotive in operation. i remember seeing those two Raritan Copper locomotives on static display and thinking that they schould re-gauge one of them like they did with the Edaville #5 now the WW&F # 10. As does Cedar Point with 3 engines available for daily ops, and two other awaiting their return to steam. |
