It might have just squeaked by under the old "28 years, renewable" standard, but thanks to Walt Disney and his damned rodent that's no longer the standard. Anyhow, as the editors of said publication are known to lurk here, we can await comment from them. |

Fairbanks Morse was pretty much tied up with defense orders for the OP from 1939 until 1944 when a new OP building came online, built with Navy money. There was a serious need for marine engines until 1944 which caused the Liberty Ships to go back to reciprocating engines. Massive new ship deliveries in 1944/1945 actually caused cancellations due to lack of manpower to man them. The breakout of Normandy caused a general move to look for reconversion back to civilian production, the Battle of the Bulge caused a temporary redirection back into military production. |

I'll just explain that this is a shameless plug for their incredibly fantastic, super-duper magazine (butter them up). I wanted to share this article because I know I'm not the only one who appreciates it. A fellow forum member here recommended it to me and when it arrived and I read it I figured there were other people out there who would appreciate as much as I. Steve |
