I am just throwing this out here to ask if anyone here in the steam industry knows of where Penberty Injectors are sold or could be purchased from. I use 3/8 and 1/2 sizes on my 15" steam locomotives. What I currently have does work well but we are looking for sources of new injectors and compare pricing. |

Yes, they are available. 2 weeks ago on Ebay was a 3/8" with a "buy it now" price of $1,000.00. That size is the most desirable for just the reason you're looking. I was able to purchase one with spare parts for significantly less than that. Suggest you check the "Smokestak" forum as they have lots of links, lots of postings and can point you in the right direction. And, of course, Penberthy is still in business and manufactures brand new 3/8" versions along with many other sizes plus spare parts. Rob |
And, of course, Penberthy is still in business and manufactures brand new 3/8" versions along with many other sizes plus spare parts.
It is true that Penberthy is still in business, but the injectors are now made in China. There have been reports about the tail pieces crumbling after just a little use due to the poor quality of the brass castings. |

http://penberthy.pentair.com/rsp.asp Might be a more helpful link. You have to find your local Penberthy distributor .... We bought a brand new 1 1/4 almost 2 years ago and it's still going strong.... Ben True DGVR |

I have been buying new Penberthy injectors from a supply in PA. 717-768-7323 Emmanuel J King 167 W Cattail RD Gordonville PA 17529 This is Cattail Foundry and they are an Amish family who are fair and honest about what they sell. You can call and leave a message and they will call you back. They are not modern but will take care of your needs. The issues with the tail pieces crumbling after use are isolated but have happened. The last ones I bought from them were US made. They also do a fine job of brass and grey iron casting. I have injectors from them on two of my traction engines and know many others who have purchased from them. John Deck |

If you would like to buy your injectors from smaller "mom and pop shop" you can contact Beckman Boatshop limited Slocum, RI or Rappahannock Boatworks in Bealton, VA. both are suppliers of replica steam launches, boilers, engines and supplies. I will also add our personal steam launch page ( Steam Launch Phoebe Snow) Rappahannock Boatworks http://www.tinypower.com/ Beckmann Boatshop http://www.steamboating.net/ SL Phoebe Snow http://www.slphoebesnow.com/ |

Second the "Smokstak" advice....not so much Ebay. Any half-decent amateur machinist can make a new tailpiece in a half hour on an old Atlas lathe. I wouldn't let that stand in the way of buying a new Penberthy product. dave |
