Post subject:  The other W&OV engine

Warren & Ouachita Valley 4-6-0 No. 1 is well known to many of us, having operated for years at Mid-Continent. Lesser known is this 4-6-0, still sitting in a park at Warren, Arkansas. Exact ownership is unclear. Dave Conrad says it was Southern Lumber Co. No. 123, but it was apparently used on the W&OV also. Sources have told me the engine is devoid of tubes, perhaps after a halt in overhaul plans. W&OV was a Rock Island subsidiary in later years, and received a 44-ton Davenport in exchange for No. 1, which was dolled up and sent to the 1948-49 Chicago RR Fair.
