Ran across this story of an elephant execution via RR big hook. When you read stuff like this in these more sensitive times, you realize again that most of us wouldn't really like the good old days if we had the chance to go back (at least if we had to stay!). My grandmother lived on Elm Street in Erwin and her neighbor, Mr. Lilly, was the big hook operator that hanged old Mary. My aunts, uncles, and grandparents were there to see the execution. Not to get too far off topic, but the really sad thing is that we STILL keep large animals captive for our amusement. Ever see elephants at a circus, chained at the leg, swaying from side-to-side? It's because these intelligent creatures are bored to the point of insanity. Now back to RR stuff... tmanz@afo.net |
