Interesting, are there any other steam locomotives currently in the USA set up with this arrangement?

Quite a number of park steam engines, such as those built by Crown Metal Products, are propane fired. That includes the one on the island in the river at Harrisburg, Pa.

This loco has been on and off Sterling for awhile now. 3 foot gauge....seems the boiler pressure is a bit low....should be more like 180-200 lbs. 162 lbs sounds like they had to derate the boiler a bit.

Perhaps it was rated at 165 historically, and the low pop opens at 162.......but it does make you question the standard and practice used in the overhaul. I'm guessing in the absence of FRA street legal, which I'd brag about in my sales literature if it were mine, that it's a locally regulated insular operation. Maybe somebody local and in the know can comment about local standards and requirements.

162 psi for a three footer in limited service isn't all that unusual. Cedar Point has long set the upper limit for their locos in the 140 psi range, and generally want them operated around 100 psi. Of course it helps when your railroad all but dead level to begin with.

162 psi = Take 10% of 180 psi and subtract it.

The Dry Gulch operation can be seen on Googlemaps at the following link:
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=Dry+Gulc ... s&t=h&z=17

I do not know what they actually do, however it would appear that they could qualify as insular per the FRA definitions. It's a typical theme park train type layout.

They look to have a nice shop and yard complex and the track looks well ballasted. I've never seen a theme park train with that many billboards along the ROW before, but it looks well kept, at least it would appear so from 2,000 feet up. :)
