steamlocomotive.info contains a record for an 0-4-0F said to be stored at the Indiana Railway Museum. It appears that this locomotive was added in 2004 or 2005 about 3 years after the website was started. I don't have a record for the source of the information, and attempts to contact the museum by mail or phone have been unsuccessful. If anyone is familiar with this locomotive I'd appreciate any information you can provide. The museum's website is fairly useless when it comes to their collection. Used the Internet Archive (http://archive.org/web/web.php) to look through older versions of their website and found the info: http://web.archive.org/web/20061022033700/http://www.indianarailwaymuseum.org/equipment3.htm Indiana & Ohio Gravel and Stone #11, Baldwin, 1936, listed as a 0-4-0T. The older version of their website linked to above dates from October of 2006. Slightly later versions of the website have a link for a PDF version of the roster, which is not accessible, either via Internet Archive or currently. |

At least to my eyes, the No. 11 pictured does not appear to be a fireless. It certainly looks like it has a saddle tank. |

Agreed - no fireless needs a smokebox door. That's even visible on a postage stamp sized photo. dave |

Okay...finally figured out what went wrong. There are three steam locomotives at French Lick, and this 0-4-0F is not one of them. The 0-4-0F in question is actually at the Indiana Transportation Museum in Noblesville. The individual who reported the 0-4-0F was confused as to where it actually was. The duplicate entry has been removed. |

Since the #11 was mentioned, if our sources are true, she is the sister to our locomotive, #10. They were built as experimental units by Baldwin, to fight the takeover of Diesel-Electric switchers. The saddle tank is actually 2 tanks, from the cab to the steam dome is the diesel oil tank, and the remaining saddle tank is for the water. In the cab thee is an automatic firing system that bases the flow of diesel to the burner based on the steam pressure of the boiler (high pressure, low flow), with a selector for the engineer to tell the valve set how hard he was planning on working the engine (idle to heavy). Because of the Automated Fire control she didn't need a Fireman. To minimize maintenance Baldwin installed Timkin Roller bearings in the main axles, for which there was a Timkin print ad. Both units initially worked Standard Steel Works, which was Baldwin's Steel Plant, before being sold to other companies in the 60's. In the case of #10 she went to Wickwire Steel in Palmer, Ma, then to the newly formed Valley Railroad in Essex, Ct. She was purchased by two fellow and stored up at the Shelborne Falls Trolley Museum in Shelbourne Falls, Ma, and finally she came to the Ct Eastern RR Museum in Willimantic, Ct, 10/2008. http://www.cteastrrmuseum.org/Baldwin040.html Rich C. |

This is why the California Railway Museum changed its name to Western Railway Museum. |
